Whoa, did three months just pass? We have some catching up to do.
Overdue: Josh and I would like to thank those who helped make our inaugural race back in November an incredible start to this journey thatʻs ahead of us. The Old Koloa Sugar Mill 10k run proved to the both of us that this work is worth it—really it proved that Jason will last for more than an hour of running. From day one, which was over a year ago, Josh and I have had incredible people standing beside us offering encouraging words, helpful training, and generous donations. Within months, we were able to secure the finances for Joshua’s race-designed wheelchair as Jason began training with running coach Pam Kruse. We’d like to thank the Rotary Club, Kauai Marathon, Fit Bodies Kauai, Adapt Performance, and the Hale Uluwehi Charitable Fund for providing guidance and the opportunity to live out Joshua’s dream of racing. We’d also like to thank YOU, our individual supporters, whose readership, prayers, donations, and words of encouragement are seeing your blessings tenfold (*topic of next blog!).
Soon after that race was done, we had a quick turnover to start training for our first ever half marathon--literally that same week. We’re excited to announce that on Sunday March 13th, we, the Iloreta Bros alongside Lucas Gushikuma, will be entering the Shamrock Run Half-Marathon in Portland, Oregon.
Why Portland you ask? Well, we wanted to run our first half-marathon with Lucas, the catalyst of all of this. Since he’s a current nursing student at UP, we wanted to travel to him. And of course, what perfect reason to go to the mainland and see friends/family!
We’ll try to keep up with ourselves better so you can too. We’ll be documenting the trip via blog and social media—follow @theiloretabros on Instagram, snapchat, and maybe twitter once we figure out how to do that.
To help get us there we have “I AM MY ABILITY” shirts still available for a suggested donation of $25 as well as “I AM MY ABILITY” decal stickers for a suggested donation of $5. Proceeds will help the defray the costs allotted from traveling as well as the intensely successful coaching Jason has received through Fit bodies Kauai and Adapt Performance. Please contact Jason to coordinate a pickup time and place this week for any of these items. You can also pick some up at Adapt Performance in Kapaa.
